| Artist name | Darcy Hinrichs |
| Artist Bio | My name is Darcy Hinrichs. I live in Sidney, Nebraska which is rather a small town in the western part of the state. (I am actually a lot closer to Denver than I am Omaha.) I’ve been married for nearly 15 years to a very tolerant man (anyone married to a designer/artist has to be tolerant, wouldn’t you agree?!) Really, though, he’s awesome…he’s my best friend, my biggest fan and I don’t know what I’d do without him. We have four awesome kids who I am so very proud of and hope that I inspire them all to go on to do great things…(I know they will!) As far as education- I have an Associate’s in Art Education from Western Nebraska Community College. I also have a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design with an emphasis in both illustration and typography from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I am most passionate about stationery design. I love that it is a field that brings so much joy into a person’s life. It helps to signify those important milestones in a person’s life such as getting married, having a baby, all those great birthdays that we celebrate, graduations, anniversaries, retirements, etc. And I love the idea that with design, I have that opportunity to somehow be a part of those special events in a person’s life, that I can somehow contribute to making it more memorable. And I get a super big thrill from creating several elements for an event and seeing it all pull together. I LOVE it! Other than stationery design, I currently work as an internet production designer for Cabela’s. I also provide other graphic services such as creating business collateral (business cards, stationery, etc.), ads, logos, posters, etc. I actually like the idea of keeping my options open because I like versatility and trying new things. Yes, I emphasize stationery as my specialty but I don’t want to close any doors to any awesome opportunities that might allow me to expand my horizons. I also like keeping those doors of opportunity to collaborate with others open. So if you have a project that you think you’d like to talk to me about, let me know! I’d love to talk to you about it! |
| Why did you want to become an artist? | I’ve always doodled, sketched and such from a young age. It wasn’t until I was working on my degree in early education that I realized in an art education class that I was most passionate about art in so many ways. I found myself diving into it more than I’d ever allowed myself to do before and found that it brought me such peace, happiness and satisfaction. |
| What is the best advice you've received from other artists? | Don’t ever be afraid to ask…most of the time, the worst you’ll ever hear is “No”. Even then, sometimes it can be negotiable. ;) Also, I have often been told to not stand in my way of greatness. Meaning that we all need to stop placing obstacles in our way, making excuses and procrastinating in pursuit of all the things we want to do and be. The happiest people are the ones that believe themselves happy…it has nothing to do with wealth, status, etc. It’s a state of mind. |
